JanMohammad (John Butt) - is an Islamic scholar, broadcaster and author of A Talib’s Tale. Originally from an English family, on graduating from the most famous Islamic seminary in South Asia-Darul Uloom Deoband in India-in 1983, JanMohammad Butt began a career in journalism and later broadcasting. In 1991, he joined the BBC World Service for Afghanistan. He was selected by the BBC to head what became known as an ‘Archers for Afghanistan’, the Archers being a famous radio serial drama set up in the wake of World War II and still running on BBC radio. Since then, Butt has devoted his career to setting up and running radio serial dramas in various parts of Asia and Africa, particularly, of course, Afghanistan, where his current radio serial drama Da Pulay Poray drama remains on air. He is mainly devoted to showing the contribution that Islam can make in every walk of modern life and how a strong madrassah education can enable one to make that contribution.
